A LITTLE MORE BACKGROUND
In 1950
,farmer Clément Van Biesen joined the world of vegetable wholesale, principally potatoes, onions and Flemish carrots, at the Charleroi morning market, located on Place de la Digue.
In 1962
,he decided to set up at Marcinelle’s Marché Vespéral. At this time, Robert Remy, a buyer at Delhaize, chose Van Biesen as his supplier. As a result, their two children, Jacques Remy and Godelieve Van Biesen, met and eventually got married.
In 1974
, the recently married Mr and Mrs Remy took over the business at the Marché Vespéral under the name of ‘Jacques Remy’. With an enormous amount of ambition and courage, they decided together to expand their range of vegetables.
In 1979
, they took over the business from the Vassart company in order to expand the warehouse. In fact, their storage facilities were limited, even though the volume of sales did not stop growing. They didn’t stop there: with their skills and will power, it was only a matter of time before they began selling fruit.
In 1993
,
their oldest son, Patrick Remy, joined them in order to aid them with their tasks.
In 1996
,
they built a new site and acquired the denomination of ‘SA Jacques Remy et fils’ [Jacques Remy and Sons plc].
In 1998
,
David Remy, their second son, in turn joined the company and was put in charge of fruit sales.
In 2003
,
Nicolas Remy, their youngest son, also became part of the family business in order to take charge of vegetable sales alongside Mrs Remy.
In 2012
,
saw the birth of Primabel, their brand of prepackaged fruit and vegetables.
To our deep regret, Jacques Remy passed away on 14 June 2013, leaving behind a wealth of experience and skill. We would like to thank him for his brilliant lessons which we make a point of continuing day after day.
